After the arrival of participants and the long meet and greet session which was held by 7:00 am, the event kicked off with an address to the participants by Mrs Blessing Onyelekwe, Head of Operations at African Cleanup Initiative. After which, the three groups selected marched from the meeting point at Uzor street to different parts of the community, where they cleaned up and sensitized residents and commuters by propelling them to promote a resilient society free from plastics and implore them to adopt proper waste management practices, till they got to the endpoint at Oluwa Nur. & Pry School, New Road B/stop.
At Oluwa School, the participants enjoyed themselves to different games, snacks, drinks and other fun activities. It ended with Mrs Rosemary Obijuru being the winner of the Green Valentine Cleanup Challenge and ACI’s Football Team emerging winner of the football match that was played against Achievers Factory Football Team.
The Green Valentine Cleanup hosted intriguing personalities like Honourable Saheed Ajao Ojora; Pastor Fortune, Founder, Achiever’s Factory; Dr Femi Idowu Adegoke, President, Lagos Recyclers Association; Mr Lucky Uduikhue, vice-Chairman, Ajeromi Ifelodun Local Government Area, to mention but a few.
However, with the cleanup exercise carried out in the Achakpo community, 324kg of solid waste and 18.8kg of Recyclables were recovered from drainages to curb flooding in the area while over eighty people benefitted directly from the exercise.
